Darrell Green

Darrell Green is a Pro Football Hall of Fame former Washington cornerback, where he played his entire 20-year NFL career. He is regarded as one of the greatest defensive backs in league history.

Green was drafted by Washington in the first round of the 1983 NFL Draft and quickly became a foundational piece of the team’s defense. Over two decades, he appeared in 295 games with 258 starts — both franchise records — and finished his career with 54 interceptions, the most in team history.

Throughout his career, Green was a seven-time Pro Bowler, four-time All-Pro, and was named the 1996 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year. He was selected to the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team and the NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team, cementing his place among the all-time greats. He helped lead his team to Super Bowl victories in 1988 and 1992.

Green holds several league and franchise records, including most consecutive seasons with an interception (19) and tying Jerry Rice for the most seasons with at least one touchdown (20). Known for his elite speed, Green also won the NFL’s Fastest Man Competition four times — the only player in history to win multiple titles, finishing undefeated.

His legacy, however, extends far beyond the field. In 2015, he founded Strong Youth Strong Communities, a national youth development initiative launched in partnership with Centene Corporation and later the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In recognition of his lasting influence, Green is a member of the Washington Commanders Ring of Fame and, in 2024, became just the fifth player in franchise history to have his jersey retired.

Green currently resides in Virginia with his wife of 40 years, Jewell. He is the proud father of four married children and grandfather to 17.
